Jefferson County – A routine traffic stop turns into a foot chase in Jefferson County. Police pulled over Eubangi Polk on Highway 104 near I-530 about seven Saturday night. Polk reportedly jumped from his vehicle and ran into the woods.

Little Rock (AP) – Governor Huckabee says the state will lend assistance to the 700 workers being laid off from the former Maytag plant at Searcy. Huckabee says through a spokeswoman that the Governor’s Dislocated Worker Task Force will be offering help to the workers.

Pine Bluff (AP) – A man awaiting execution for the slaying of a college student at a coin laundry in 1993 claims in federal court that lethal injection is unconstitutional and should be banned.

Little Rock (AP) – A middle school in Pulaski County is evacuated because a tree fell onto a propane tank. Robinson Middle School in western Pulaski County was evacuated this morning. Officials say the students were taken to the adjacent high school.

Little Rock – After severe weather moved through the state Tuesday night, about 25,000 utility customers are still without power this morning. Entergy Arkansas says Pine Bluff has seen the greatest number of outages, where about 6,600 customers are without power.

Charleston (AP) – The number of vehicles stolen in South Carolina has risen for the seventh straight year. The National Insurance Crime Bureau says there were nearly 24,000 auto thefts in South Carolina last year.
